FUZE is a youth ministry for ages 12-18. FUZE meets Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm-8:15pm, and we eat dinner, play games, and study the Bible. Programs like FUZE help mentor and develop teenagers like Zechariah. Zechariah is a quiet and humble 13-year-old kid. He is no stranger to bullying, hardship, and pain. Zechariah grew up coming to Camp Nikos and Big Fish Club. Even though Zechariah lives in south Austin, he rides the bus every Wednesday night with his older sister just to come to FUZE. He is shy, sensitive, and has a really big heart. Last year, Zechariah lost his grandmother; he was devastated.
One night at FUZE he was in tears and hugged me desperately wanting the peace of God. We prayed together, read some Scripture, and he walked away with a tear-stained smile. Zechariah is not unlike any of us. He has good days and bad days. He feels pain and joy. My biggest encouragement from Zechariah is his unchanging heart.
He volunteers at Camp Nikos, is a model camper on FUZE retreats, and always listens to the lessons. He is quick to listen and slow to speak. FUZE has offered Zechariah a community he desperately wanted, and did not find anywhere else. I am so proud of Zechariah! He and his sister are examples of how Christ-centered relationships, consistency, and commitment can radically change lives. Mission: Possible! Austin has played this part for a large part of their lives, and Zechariah says thank you!
